“Echos” was written for the Bristol Eastern High School Percussion Ensemble to directly
cater to the ensemble’ capabilities and instrumentation. This Medium level piece
introduces the young percussionist to musical occurrences such as odd numbered phrases,
tempo changes, compound meter, accidentals, and other events that are largely atypical
to introductory percussion ensemble repertoire. The name “Echos” is a reference to the repeated
ostinato patterns found in the mallet parts, each of which can be thought of as echoing itself.
